Burn Ban

Burn Ban For All Of Lycoming County

A "BURN BAN" for all of Lycoming County beginning at 12:01 am, Sunday, April 16, 2006, has been issued by the County Commissioners. Resolution 2006-8 imposes a burn ban on all open burning in the County.

Open burning is defined as the ignition and subsequent burning of any combustible material (garbage, leaves, grass, twigs, litter, paper, vegetation involved with land clearing, or any sort of debris) out-of-doors in either a burn barrel (screened or unscreened), fire ring or on the ground.

The resolution shall be enforced by any sworn police officer, including the Pennsylvania State Police. Whenever a violation of the Resolution occurs in a city, borough, incorporated town, or township which has in effect an ordinance prohibiting opening burning, the police officer may cite the violation under either the municipal ordinance or this County Resolution. Under no circumstances shall any person be cited for violation of both this County Resolution and the municipal ordinance for the violation.

The burn ban imposed by the resolution shall remain in effect for thirty (30) days from the effective date hereof.

Any person who violates the provisions of this Resolution commits a summary offense and shall, upon conviction, be sentenced to pay a fine of not more than $100 for the first offense, $200 for the second offense and $300 for the third offense.
