Lycoming County Resource Management Services operates a 60,000 square foot Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) co-located with the Lycoming County Landfill in Brady Township, Lycoming County. The MRF, dedicated in October of 2003, is essential for the processing of 45 plus tons of material received daily at the existing facilities at the Lycoming County Landfill.

The enhancements anticipated with the construction of this new facility include a three fold increase in the storage areas for raw materials received and processed and an improved conveyor driven sorting system for plastics, glass, metal, cans and various grades of paper. Lundy Construction Company of Williamsport erected the 60,000 square foot processing center.

The PA DEP has provided over $5 million in Recycling Grants for the design and construction of the building. The County has requested additional funding through a grant application.

The Lycoming County Recycling program began in 1985 with the passage of Act 101 mandating curbside collection in municipalities with populations greater than 10,000 residents. During that year, The City of Williamsport and Loyalsock Township began the collection of selected items “at the curb”. Since then, the program has expanded to include the bi-weekly collection of select Act 101 required materials in 12 municipalities and the joint operation of 24 drop off sites in Lycoming County. In addition to those materials generated in Lycoming County, the new center will also receive materials from municipal and commercial collection programs in Union, Snyder, Northumberland, Columbia and Montour Counties.
