Basic Rescue Practices
(60 hours)
The Department of Health Basic Rescue Practices training program is a comprehensive rescue training program designed to prepare fire, rescue, and emergency medical services personnel for the rigors of providing safe and efficient rescue operations in Pennsylvania. This program is designed as an entry level instructional unit that will introduce the student to the basic skills and knowledge required of the rescue services.
Basic Rescue Practices stresses the importance of personal safety of the resucerer at all times.
Topics covered in this program include:
- Personal Safety
- Personal Protective Gear/Equipment
- Hazards
The program mixes classroom lectures, discussions, and demonstrations with field demonstrations and hands-on training. To meet the needs of high skill proficiency on the part of the student, more than 60% of the course is devoted to closely supervised skill practice sessions and situational rescue problem solving which calls upon the student to apply classroom knowledge and field practiced skills to effect a wide variety of rescues.
