Assessment Appeals Board
The Board of Assessment Appeals is an independent Board, authorized by statute and appointed by the County Commissioners of Lycoming County. The board is established for the purpose of hearing assessment appeals. When there is a dispute over the assessment and an appeal is filed, it is the responsibility of the Board of Assessment Appeals to hear from the taxpayers or their attorneys and look at any documentation that is submitted regarding the property value and make a determination as to the market value which is used for assessment purposes. The chief assessor also supplies comparable properties for the appeals. There is also training which is required of the board member. The training is done online and is comprised of two classes which are three hours each.
All Real Estate Appeal Hearings are handled in October.
