Emergency Medical Technician
(200 Hours)
 
The Department of Health EMT curriculum utilizes the National Educational Standards for Emergency Medical Technicians, to be presented within a 200 hour training program.  This training program utilizes both didactic (classroom lecture) and practical exercises.
 
Topics addressed within the EMT Training Program include:
  • Preparatory
  • Airway
  • CPR/AED
  • Patient Assessment
  • Medical Emergencies
  • Behavioral Emergencies
  • OB/GYN
  • Trauma
  • Infants/Children
  • Operations
  • Splinting
  • Spinal Immobilization
  • Patient Assisted Medications
    ("Epi" Pen, Nitroglycerine, Bronchodilator Inhalers)
 
 
It is recognized that there is additional specific education that will be required of EMT who operate in the field, i.e. Ambulance Driver Training, Rescue, Basic Extrication, Special Needs, etc.  This curriculum is intended to prepare a medically competent EMT to operate in the field.  Enrichment programs and continuing education will help fulfill other special needs of the EMT.

Co-requisites for this program include NIMS 100 & 700, and Hazardous Materials Awareness, all of which may be completed online.
